This website was
created in 2001, shortly
after my son, Del, was diagnosed with autism at the age of 16
months. Having worked with autistic children in the past gave me the
advantage of detecting the signs of autism in Del at a very early
age. My husband and I both knew by the time Del was 9 months old
that he was most likely autistic. Del began intensive therapy
programs at 18 months old. He is a very happy child and quite
bright. He does not speak, YET! Del loves interacting with computer
games and educational programs. He's a whiz at playing PlayStation
games and gets them figured out before anyone else in the family.
Del now uses a 'speech-box' by Prentke-Romich Company that allows
him to communicate more easily.
